Welcome, Fáilte

Welcome to my website where I showcase my projects. The purpose of this site is to share some information on things I've been working on, serve as a way to share knowledge, and act as a portfolio of my work.

About me

I’ve always been fascinated by how things work — from electricity and mechanics to software and the wider world of science. Growing up in rural Ireland, surrounded by the practical, make-do spirit of the countryside, I found myself drawn to tools, broken machines, and quiet moments of figuring things out. As a child, I’d often take things apart just to see what made them tick — not always sure I’d get them back together, but always learning something in the process.

That curiosity never really left. Over time, it shaped the direction of my life — first through hands-on projects, then through formal study, and eventually into a PhD and a career in research and development. It wasn’t a planned destination, just a path that unfolded one problem at a time, guided by a deep interest in how things could be understood — and improved.

I’ve always believed that fixing and making things — even ordinary, everyday things — matters. There’s a quiet kind of creativity in solving practical problems, and a certain satisfaction in giving something a second life rather than throwing it away. These days, many people feel they need to call in a professional or replace something altogether at the first sign of trouble. But often, with a bit of patience and curiosity, the solution is well within reach.

This website is a place to share some of the things I’ve built, repaired, or explored — not polished products, but honest, working ideas. I hope they might spark your own interest to tinker, repair, invent, or just see things a little differently. To me, science and engineering are not just professions — they’re ways of engaging with the world. As Arthur C. Clarke put it, “Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.” And the more we explore, the more that sense of wonder deepens.
